Karl Tipp is an Estonian saxophonist and composer whose work spans classical music, jazz, improvisation and electronic music.
He began his musical studies with piano at Paide Music School before turning to the saxophone. He later studied classical saxophone at the Georg Ots Tallinn Music School and the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, while also pursuing composition and music production.
As a saxophonist, Karl performs both as a soloist and in ensembles, exploring different approaches to the instrument and its place in contemporary music. He is a member of the Estonian Saxophone Quartet and performs in projects that bring together acoustic instruments, electronics and improvisation.
Alongside performing, Karl composes music, with a particular interest in choral and chamber music. His compositions explore the relationship between people and nature, the expressive possibilities of the human voice, and the ways different instrumental timbres can come together. His work sometimes incorporates electronics and microtonality.
Karl also creates music as tHerbalist, a unique blend of indie folk, nordic jazz, poetic lyricism and catchy melodies. This is a personal project where songwriting, voice, saxophone and electronic sounds meet.
He is a member of the Estonian Composers’ Union.
To wish for balance, one should first offset the condition and to understand silence you should absorb sounds.
